SUNFLOWER

The sunflower plant is a crop widely grown for its vibrant flowers and valuable seeds. Sunflower seeds are rich in oil, making them a primary source of sunflower oil which is used in cooking, cosmetics and biofuels. SOYBEAN

RAPESEED

The rapeseed plant (Brassica napus) is widely valued for its oil-rich seeds, which produce a healthy, light tasting oil used in cooking and biodiesel production. Rapeseed is a plant with yellow flowers. It usually grows up to 30 cm. In agriculture, rapeseed benefits crop rotations by improving soil health and serving as protein-rich livestock feed after oil extraction. Moreover, rapeseed has medical use as its bioactive compounds have shown antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that may support heart health and metabolic balance. Also, α-linolenic acid existed in rapeseed ameliorates wound healing.

LINSEED

Linseed derived from the flax plant (Linum usitatissimum), is a highly valued crop known for its various uses. The plant features slender stems, blue flowers, and small, glossy seeds rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and protein. Linseed is primarily used for producing flaxseed oil, a popular ingredient in healthy foods and dietary supplements, and its meal serves as a nutritious animal feed. Beyond its nutritional value, linseed has industrial applications including paints, varnishes, and biodegradable products. SAFFLOWER

Safflower is a drought-resistant crop that has been cultivated for centuries for its oil-rich seeds and vibrant flowers. Known for its adaptability to arid regions, safflower thrives in challenging climates, making it an essential crop in water-scarce areas. Safflower seeds are a valuable source of high-quality oil, widely used in cooking, cosmetics and industrial applications. Additionally safflower’s white petals are prized for their use as natural dyes and herbal remedies. As a sustainable agricultural option, safflower plays a vital role in diversifying crop systems and supporting global food security.

SESAME

Sesame (Sesamum indicum) is a flowering plant cultivated primarily for its tiny, oil-rich seeds. Native to tropical regions of Africa and India, the plant thrives in warm climates and well drained soil. Sesame seeds are valued for their nutty flavor and high oil content, making them a key ingredient in culinary traditions worldwide. They are used to produce sesame oil, a healthy cooking oil rich in antioxidants and are also added to baked goods, salads, and sauces. Beyond culinary uses, sesame seeds are used in cosmetics and traditional medicines due to their nutritional benefits, including high levels of protein, calcium and vitamins.
